There is so much to be thankful for as a Mom. Your family and your children obviously top that list, but today I’ll be talking about all the little things that I’m grateful for this Thanksgiving season. Because being a Mom is hard, and sometimes you have to remember to appreciate all those little things that make your life a bit easier, so that you don’t go ballistic and start screaming at the children you’re so thankful for when they are making your life the opposite of easy.
So, in that spirit, I am eternally thankful for:
Amazon Prime. Since many stores have been having Black Friday sales since Halloween, I know that there are people out there who have already started their Christmas shopping. I am not one of those people. Sometimes I get a little bit of Christmas shopping done early, but most of the time I’m just thankful for free 2-day shipping.
Kids that like cranberry sauce. It’s cheap, it’s easy to make, and it’s one of the only things they’ll eat on Thanksgiving. Sure, it has a bunch of sugar in it, but it’s fruit, so I’m calling it a win.
There will never be an Elf on any of the shelves in my house. This is a tradition that my children will never know. Well, that’s not true. They do know about it, in that some of their friends have told them about it. But they don’t want one, and even if they asked, they wouldn’t get one. I believe I’ve made my feeling on the matter pretty clear.
Kids that don’t mind digging their clothes out of the “clean” laundry basket. Okay, it’s all they’ve ever known, so I guess they wouldn’t know to complain, but still. My only worry is that when they’re old enough to fold their clothes without making me twitch, they won’t understand that in an ideal world, they should be folded and put away in a reasonable amount of time. Guess I’ll cross that bridge when I get to it.
Netflix. Or any streaming service. Television in and of itself is great and all; it’s how I was able to shower and cook meals for many years when my kids were smaller. But these streaming services are great because you don’t have to hope something your kids want to watch will be on when you need it. With streaming, there is always something on they’ll be willing to watch. It may take 20 minutes of finding that thing, but rest assured, they’ll find something.
There are so many other things I’m thankful for – a beautiful sunrise, my health and the health of my family, the roof over our heads, friends, coffee, the dishwasher, the fact that my kids can get their own breakfast and snacks, and so much more.
From big important things to all the little things we take for granted, I’m thankful this holiday season (and all year long) for everything that I have. Except whiny children. I like the “children” part, but I could definitely do without the “whiny.” Ooh, that reminds me! Wine. I’m very thankful for wine.
